Jens Masmann’s work „romantic“ deals with the photographic cliché and the way pictures from this visual range are read – it draws on the interface between words and visuals. The project is based on simple photographic fakes, staged through classic photographic means – like for example a fake sunset or a starry night – orchestrated in a studio set-up. In a second step these photographs are read by Artificial Intelligence and complemented with short machine-generated captures.
Which amount of visual emotion has to be offered in the pictures in order to make them readable beyond their real, technical content – what is needed to make man or machine follow the emotional narrative?
