Brad Woodfin was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts in 1970. He moved to Olympia, Washington in 1991 to study printmaking and painting at The Evergreen State College. His work has been featured in solo shows in New York, Vancouver, Calgary, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Melbourne, as well as group shows and art fairs in Hamburg, London, Miami, New York and Melbourne. Brad Woodfin lives and works in Montreal.
His portraits of birds and animals, rendered carefully on a rich dark background, evoke the portraits from the Dutch Golden Age. The posture of his subjects and his use of light combine to bestow each species with an almost religious reverence.
ALL GOLDEN
Digging deep into late summer and using golden light to ward off demons, these paintings are alert and turned on, dressed up, buzzing with wings lifting burdens. Plucked, glowing embers to carry into darkness.
